The Center for Biomembrane Research (CBR) is a strategic initiative to advance Swedish research on membranes, membrane proteins and cell membrane-related functionality. CBR focuses on two closely related research areas:
- Membrane protein biochemistry (e.g. proteomics, bioinformatics, over-expression, purification, and structure-function studies)
- Membrane protein assembly, folding and dynamics

CBR’s mission is to integrate these activities into a coherent structure that combines several different approaches to studying membrane proteins. The center’s activities are highly relevant for drug development since about 50% of all drugs target such proteins.
