Stockholm Brain Institute (SBI) is a consortium for Cognitive and Computational Neuroscience, linking the Karolinska Institutet, the Royal Institute of Technology and Stockholm University in a joint endeavor to enhance our understanding of higher brain function. SBI’s objective is to apply a systems neurobiology approach to higher brain function; from genes, cells and neural networks to cognitive functions and behavior. This comprehensive approach requires a broad set of skills extending from neurobiology and neuroimaging to psychology and clinical epidemiology. In addition, mathematical modeling tools will be needed to achieve a coherent understanding as numerous influential factors vary independently. In collaboration with AstraZeneca and IBM, and with public healthcare-provider partners, this new knowledge will be used to develop biomarkers and new principles for disease prevention and intervention.
