Like many of the companies in the Uppsala incubation program, ModPro AB focuses on products that will improve life-science product or industry performance. The company’s solution for binding and recognizing proteins is more sensitive and more precise than antibodies, and more stable to produce. Its protein binders are expected to dramatically change the development of diagnostics. The company results from Prof. Lars Baltzer’s research at Uppsala University.
Quick progress from idea to company
– The process from research and idea to a company with customers and investors has been smooth and quick since I came to Uppsala, says Lars, now university professor and company founder.
– We needed a proof-of-concept and the Uppsala BIO-X, Uppsala BIO’s program for needs motivated research, gave us the chance to achieve this. We were able to test and develop our binders in the development of a diagnostic microchip. But we got more than a proof-of-concept. The program also provided us with client contacts, coaches and an industrial mindset which meant that we were directly accepted in UIC accelerator program. Business coaching made a big difference. We got help negotiating with customers and in our contacts with investors. Only two years after proof of concept, we now have paying clients from the life-science industry.
