Firmly anchored in Uppsala's life science sector, owned by the two universities,
the university hospital, the life science industry and society, Uppsala BIO has
a unique position and a mission is to stimulate the long term development and
growth of the sector.
Uppsala BIO's contributions to the growth of the region's life science sector
are focused on the interactions between industry and academy, and actions are
grouped around four action areas, namely:
* From idea to prototype
o Uppsala BIO-X
* Innovations
* Skills and training
* Networking
Together with the City of Stockholm and biotechvalley.nu, Uppsala BIO founded
Stockholm-Uppsala Life Science to better market the region's potential in life
sciences globally.
In 2003, the Swedish Agency for Innovation Systems, VINNOVA, launched the
VinnVäxt programme. Uppsala BIO was elected one of three winners in the first
competition, which gave the initiative a stable platform to work from and a
quick start.
The Uppsala BIO initiative was created by representatives from the life science
industry, the universities and the city of Uppsala and has today over 30 members
and partners.
Uppsala BIO is run as project within STUNS, the Foundation for cooperation
between the universities in Uppsala, the business sector and the community. Areas |
