The Uppsala Berzelii Technology Center for Neurodiagnostics is a joint effort between three faculties at Uppsala University, several companies and Uppsala University Hospital. The aim is to provide a deeper understanding of neurodegenerative diseases. The center partners represent a broad set of competences spanning from samples via analysis methods to drug discovery. The research is divided into five thematic programmes: Technology development, Alzheimer, Parkinson/ALS, Pain/opiates and New diagnostics. The vision of the center is that persons with any of the neurorelated diseases will be accurately diagnosed at an early stage, prescribed a therapy based on individual response, and be able to continue living with maintained quality of life. The mission is to produce excellent research in the field of neurorelated diseases, bring novel scientific findings faster into the health care system, and enable industry valuable products as a result. This will be accomplished by uniting patient care, basic and clinical research, and biotechnology industry expertise. The center is supported by The Swedish Governmental Agency for Innovation Systems (VINNOVA) and The Swedish Research Council (VR) and was appointed as a Berzelii Centra 2007.
